More information
The eye was directly over Vava'u giving an hour and a half reprieve where lines were checked, and chafe gear renewed. All in all it seems damage was light on the waterfront due to three days of preparations and good weather forecasts.

Lee shore
Building winds
Hanging power lines
Blown over offices
Blown over guard shack
Downed power poles
The eye is just passing overhead. The other side of the eye and front can be seen in the distance. You could watch the white water advance and we were back in it.

Mooring lines that did and did not work
One line, almost no chafe gear and rubbing on the bobstay. It held.
This cat held, but to keep it down they filled the bow with sea water. That is why the bows are so low in the water.
The mooring line held, but the mooring drug.
Here is a photo of the bow. Think it held?
It failed at about 80 knots.
How about this mooring line? It held.
Repairs underway
In the first 24 hrs most of the docks have been repaired.
The cruisers dingy dock is almost back to normal after a days diving.
The ReefI was wondering how the local reefs did with the storm surge. We took a quick snorkel around today and the coral looks in amazingly good shape.
On a small scale the reef looked normal
A few small breaks were found
But on the whole the system seemed pretty much normal
Even the larger areas of delicate coral seemed to survive. This photo was taken in two meters of water where almost a mile of fetch built. More to come.
